Jhon's current concert program Nuevas Raíces honors Mexican culture through the exploration and sharing of classical music written for the guitar by contemporary Mexican composers. These are composers who have been influenced by the sounds and colors that define Mexico’s modern day vibrant culture. Jhon explores, presents, develops and expands upon the classical repertoire being written by today's Mexican composers through Nuevas Raíces.
Jhon has served as faculty at Boston University Tanglewood Institute, guest faculty at Northeastern University, and Guitar Department Coordinator at the Berklee College of Music. Inspired by his studies at the New England Conservatory and over 12 years of teaching experience, Jhon believes that “Music in education plays an essential role in the early stages of a child’s development by fostering a growth mindset that rewards and praises students based on effort put forth rather than test score or innate ‘talent.’”
Jhon is currently located in Boston, MA, sits on the board of directors for the Boston Classical Guitar Society.
